Vinnie Paul turns down cash offer for Pantera reunion

Going to a gig, going to another festival, or want to tell people about the awesome riff that you just worked out.

Hardly suprising - it would be very painful indeed to be looking over to the spot your brother used to play in and seeing a bunch of stand-ins, as though he was essentially interchangeable with a bunch of other musicians.

It's quite a depressing idea, this notion of swapping dead rockstars out for other musicians, as though there was nothing about them that made their bands great. How far would people be willing to take this? We're already trying to get excited about Queen fronted by a gameshow contestant. How about a Nirvana reunion with Gavin Rossdale from Bush standing in for Kurt Cobain?

The only times this has ever worked are when the remaining members have worked hard to redefine themselves without the deceased member (eg Metallica, AC/DC); just swapping in some other dude for the dead guy and doing a grab bag of nostalgia shows is pretty unpleasant.

Not sure that it's Vinnie Paul that's the problem with a Pantera reunion.
