Best of 2011

Going to a gig, going to another festival, or want to tell people about the awesome riff that you just worked out.

No mention of Rush? :(

It was amazing don't get me wrong, but The first 9 were absolute locks, very special memories for me personally. Rush was right on the border. Honestly i drew up a best gig list in a word document and there were like 30+ sets, so it's been a very good year.

+I was quite pissed by the end.

Ah, nice one. Yeah, this year has been phenomenal for gigs. Wish I had more money for them, aha.

Top 10, no idea... but best live acts, Muse (Reading 2011) get the top spot for pure... brilliance, but Enter Shikari (again, Reading 2011) and Pendulum (Download 2011) get no. 1 for being the most fun. Seriously insane, seriously awesome. BFS were also tops both times and the best new band I discovered (through live shows) has to be the Suburban Legends, they were tops!

Best albums, or at least the ones I have listened to the most... are Gold Cobra (Limp Bizkit), Fishin' for Woos (BFS) and ermmm.... Up All Night.... One Direction (no shame.) :D '

Best Albums:

Top 3 (in any order):
Exit Ten - Give Me Infinity
Sylosis - Edge Of The Earth
Mastodon - The Hunter

The rest:
Trivium - In Waves
Skindred - Union Black
Mastodon - Live At The Aragon
Charlie Simpson - Young Pilgrim
The Black Dahlia Murder - Ritual
Malefice - Awaken The Tides
Anterior - Echoes Of The Fallen
Chapters - Chapters

Pretty good year overall, some disappointing albums though (Devildriver and Machine Head being the most glaring)

Gigs:
Kvelertak @ Roundhouse, Manchester - probably the best gig I've been to, I've played their album to death for over a year and finally got to see them, and they were better than I expected, and I expected it to be superb. One of my favourite gigs ever.
Gojira @ Sonisphere - first time seeing them, they were perfect.
Sylosis, Malefice, Anterior & Chapters @ Manchester Academy - 4 great, home grown bands, each put on a fantastic performance.
Exit Ten @ Sonisphere - only time I've seen them this year, missed them in June as my own band had a gig the same day. Hope to see much more of them next year, been following them for years, hope the new album pushes them higher.
Everytime I've seen Sylosis (especially opening main stage at Sonisphere) - I love them, they always put on a fantastic performance, will be seeing them at every opportunity this year.

Sure there were more gigs but they aren't coming to mind right now. It's been a good year, hope 2012 will match it.
