I've been thinking this. I'd be pretty pissed off if either of these were headlining.

Pendulum yes..... Paramore a big no for me - but they are popular apparently!

When I see the word Pendulum I keep thinking it is actually Pudendum. I also now prefer the latter as a band name. I never really liked them anyway.

Well I cannot take responsibility for that I'm afraid but it's a genuine Latin word with a perfectly non rude meaning!
As for Paramore - it just reminds me of a former game show host who didn't like Hot Spots.

Ah, I see what happened. Google decided I wasn't searching for Pudendum but instead was searching for pudendal nerve. THANKS GOOGLE.

I know a song by Paramore! It's called 'That's What I Get'.

It isn't very good.

You must be quite annoyed that they've been signed to headline then.

Oh metalicbear, you're not still touting Manowar as a headliner are you?

Headliners
My ideal headliners would be Rush, SOAD & Sabbath, although I fully understand that Rush would be a bad idea and will probably never happen (I would still love to see it). SOAD & Sabbath seem far more plausible to me. Others I'd like to see are NIN, RATM (also not going to happen, but would be awesome), Pearl Jam, KISS (if the other 2 headliners were stronger) & RHCP.
Something like AC/DC, Foos or Muse would be cool but I don't see it happening as those bands are particularly expensive, & Soni doesn't have the same capacity and spending power as DL or R&L. If they do play the rest of the line-up may suffer for it. I could be wrong and I actually would like to be, but I think those bands are unlikely to be booked.

Undercard
Priest, Machine Head, FNM, Soundgarden, Primus, Alice Cooper, Monster Magnet, Sleep (would make a great 3rd stage headliner, as would Swans), Immortal, Opeth, Godflesh, LOG, Wolfmother, Megadeth, Dragonforce (they're actually good live nowadays), Clutch, Rancid, Dead Kennedys, Gogol Bordello

Indie Bands?
I've been thinking whether a little representation of indie bands would work or not. I'm not talking about bringing in Arctic Monkeys or Bombay Bicycle Club or anything like that, I was thinking more Pixies as a 2nd stage headliner or Dinosaur Jr/Modest Mouse somewhere in the undercard, I think it could work.

I think Pendulum could pull off a friday headliner, but only if supported by two big acts like this year. Paramore on the other hand can stay well away, they might be able to headline Reading and Leeds but DL or Soni is to big a stretch imo.

Also ZZ Top, Manowar and Judas Priest are not headliners, they may be good to watch, but its 3rd down for me at the most.

It can be difficult for a band to replicate the experience of listening to them on record, in a live environment. Sounds like Paramore have nailed it, though.

I knew the name was familiar and it's because Paramore did a song on Guitar Hero called "Misery Business" (which is the only way I learn about any new bands). It was alright. Quite catchy. I could play it so I would expect them to invite me up on stage with a plastic guitar if they happened to be playing.

Judas Priest have played 2 UK festivals in recent history, 1 was headlining the main stage at High Voltage, the other was special guest with a full headlining slot at Download.

Manowar have never done a UK festival, so it's hard to say, but the cost and setup would mean they headline.

ZZ Top's an interesting one, they played 3rd from top at Download in a year they sold out of 90k+ tickets, Sonisphere's capacity is around 60k. To me that would push them up to sub, I think they could pull off a headlining slot, but maybe sub is more appropriate.

If Manowar would cost that much e.c.t. they won't be booked because they are in no way a headliner in the UK.

ZZ Top as sub would be pushing it. Could maybe see them headlining the second stage. Bands don't always play higher at soni than DL.

ZZ Top at DLF - large portion of the crowd went to see Steel Panther as soon as they came on the tent

In no world will Manowar ever headline and neither will Judas Priest, unless their next album sells millions

Manowar will either headline or not play, every year they're not playing, their rarity factor is getting bigger, it's as simple as that.

Judas Priest are headlining festivals next year, will they headline a UK festival, let's wait and see.

They may be a little past their prime these days but Judas Priest and ZZ Top could teach any band how to do a headline show.
Priest seem to attract bigger crowds outside the UK. The anti-DadRock folk would not be impressed though.

The 'rareity factor' of Manowar is roughly as potent as the 'rareity factor' of Stryper, or The Reynolds Girls.

They may not be my choice, but I completely agree. I think we underestimate how big Priest and ZZ Top are!
