Bands you want to see at Sonisphere 2015

Postby MetalMan » Sun Jul 20, 2014 9:42 pm

So I saw there's not really a proper thread on who everyone wants to see play Soni next year, so I thought I'd start one...

For me I'd like to say any of these
Headlining - AC/DC, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Queen, Metallica

Other bands - Volbeat, Saxon, Black Stone Cherry, Dropkick Murphys, FFDP, The Wildhearts, Journey, Europe, Black Star Riders, Bowling For Soup, Sum 41, Steel Panther, Motorhead, Chas & Dave, Alestorm, The Gaslight Anthem, Shinedown.

Any of these & I'm happy.

Judas Priest.
Probably not headliner material but could headline Saturn.

And bring Alice Cooper back

Bring back Devin Townsend and have him headline Bohemia. Same with Ghost.

Also, the Protomen, Electric Six, Turbowolf, Zoax and Baby Godzilla. All on lower stages.

IF AC/DC are booked then I can see us getting a 2010 set-up again with Saturn used on Friday so:

Headliners:
Friday on Saturn: Slash w/Miles Kennedy
Saturday: AC/DC
Sunday: Faith No More

Alice Cooper, Black Star Riders, Black Stone Cherry, Bodycount, Buffalo Summer, Cage The Gods,
5FDP, Gojira, Grand Magus, Heaven's Basement, Killswitch Engage, Lawnmower Deth, Orange Goblin,
Royal Republic, Saxon, Sepultura, Skid Row, Skindred, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cadillac Three,
The Temperance Movement, The Wildhearts, Volbeat

and very definitely Ghost headlining Bohemia please!

Certainly Sir, that'll be £400 for your standard camping ticket. Oh and did we mention there's no undercard this year - we couldn't afford one. :)

I'm not particularly interested in AC/DC, Airbourne do pretty much exactly the same music but put on a better show.

AC/DC's stage show is remarkable in its own way. You know how Rammstein use visual puns, metaphor, and humour in their stage show to generate a subtext and narrative? AC/DC is like the opposite of that. So the song Rock n Roll Train starts with a giant train arriving on the stage. Whole Lotta Rosie features a giant inflatable woman whose name is probably Rosie, the song Hells Bells features a giant bell, etc. It's like everything stems from the most bluntly literal interpretation of the song title possible, with every opportunity for imagination completely eradicated. I've never seen anything quite like it in terms of what happens when you throw millions of dollars at creative black hole.

You're right, I should have just put AC/DC, Biffy Clyro and SOAD
Although a strong headliner like AC/DC, Foos and Slipknot would be great, you wouldn't be able to justify paying the money for just them as the undercard would need to be solid as well :P

Rammstein / Alter Bridge/ ACDC

Machine Head
Cadillac 3
Black stone cherry
5FDP
Dropkick murphys
Evile
Airbourne
Volbeat

The more mainstream Biffy/Muse/Foo Fighters/Chilli Peppers/ while ok in there own right dont really do it for me at Soni although did enjoy Biffy a couple of years back but it would be like Slayer headlining the isle of wight or Cannibal corpse headlining radio 1's big weekend or Metallica doing glastonbury..............ok scrap last one but im sure you get what i mean

Headliners from any of Sabbath, Slipknot, Paramore, Guns N' Roses, NIN, Pendulum, Green Day, Tool, QOTSA or FNM.

Would love these but in reality wouldn't get the likes of Muse, Foo's, AC/DC, SOAD, RATM for obvious reasons i.e. likely would cost too much or in some cases the bands look finished. In fantasy Foo's, Slipknot and Gun's N' Roses would be incredible but not going to happen.

Any bands from these too would be cool;

Shinedown
Trivium
Disturbed
Slash
Alter Bridge
Black Stone Cherry
Killswitch Engage
Machine Head
Staind
Volbeat
Five Finger Death Punch
Rev Theory
Papa Roach
Periphery
Nightwish
Tenacious D
Megadeth
Devildriver
Lamb of God
Testament
Skindred
Judas Priest

Are Paramore and Pendulum really big enough to headline a day? I can't say that I would recognise a single song by either of these bands.

Pendulum sub-headlined before they split, reuinion + new album would see them headlining. Paramore are absolutely big enough, they're headlining Reading and Leeds this year.
