Returning Bands from Past Sonispheres

Postby PurpleDemon » Sat Dec 07, 2013 6:07 pm

So we have two returning headliners. Sonisphere is set to celebrate Knebworth's history as a music venue, and Sonisphere is arguably a large part of that. So that means we're likely to once again get a fair few bands from Sonispheres past. But who?

Sonisphere 2012 was the first to succumb to what we can already assume to be the "Anthrax Curse" - Anthrax weren't booked for the first time in the festival's history due to their appearance at Download and the festival was promptly cancelled. Currently they're not on the Download or Bloodstock lineups so a return could be on the cards, appeasing the Knebworth gods and assuring that the festival goes ahead in good fortune. So the legend foretold.

Skindred are another frequent flier at Sonisphere, booked three times including at the cancelled 2012 event. Gojira may also be around, and odds are now on Placebo appearing on either the Friday or the Sunday. Nine Inch Nails have been tossed around as a potential headliner or subheadliner. Limp Bizkit have a new album out next year and would probably have been announced for Download by now if they were there.

Opeth, Mastodon, Slayer, Parkway Drive, Sabaton, Airbourne, Volbeat, Black Spiders, Motley Crue and more are potential returns for next year's festival. Personally I'd love to see Weezer and Gojira back, as well as NIN, Crue, Placebo and maybe even Alice in Chains, all of whom I missed on their last appearances. Apocalyptica coming back would be amazing, though I'd rather see them at their own show next year.

Sylosis made the weekend for me in 2011 so would love to see them come back!

just not too many please, headliners are already a repeat fest so the least we need is some decent high up under card bands for people who have supported this festival for years

I think there'll be a good balance. Get in the likes of Jane's Addiction and QOTSA who've never done the festival before and noone will mind the rebooking of bands like Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains or Motley Crue.

yeah a few i dont mind, id like anthrax back because sonisphere etc, skindred are always cool and dont take up too high of a slot, crue id like back if they dont play like gooseberry like they did last time

alice in chains i would hate because they take up a really high slot and have played twice already, theres thousands of bands could fit those slots that havent played before.

while we have a shortage of headlners for these things there is no shortage of subs here so say top 3 on apollo and 2 on saturn - headliners since we know them i would like to see mostly new people that havent been here before

Sylosis played all three of the previous Sonispheres as well, so we need them and Anthrax in order to keep the festival going.

Other bands I'd like to return:

Gojira (on Saturn)
Firewind (I've started listening to them since 2011)
Funeral for a Friend (on Saturn or Apollo please, I haven't seen them before and they clashed with Maiden in 2010, poor blokes)
Volbeat
Opeth
Turisas
Sabaton
Evile (I still haven't seen them!)
Bigelf

But let's get some different, interesting bands this year as well please!

Oh, frakk yeah. I was volunteering in 2011, was on shift from midway through Anthrax's set until about midnight, with a 45 minute break that I was gonna use to catch Megadeth. Went through Bohemia on the way just as Firewind had come onto the stage, ended up not seeing a second of Megadeth. frakking incredible band that I haven't seen since, but I'd definitely catch them if they were booked again.

AiC were boring as in 2011, not again.

Weezer,Mastodon,Volbeat,Skindred and Anthrax. Would take BSC and Flogging Molly from 2012. For mainstage bands. Don't think repeating bands off of smaller stages is that much of a problem tbh.

If we're just talking main stage bands, then these are the ones I wouldn't mind returning (obviously not saying I want all of them but a selection would be a-okay with me):

2009: Nine Inch Nails, Machine Head, Anthrax, Alien Ant Farm, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, Skindred, Airbourne
2010: Placebo, Pendulum, Lacuna Coil, Alice Cooper, Motley Crue, Apocalyptica, Soulfly, the Cult, Skunk Anansie
2011: Bad Religion, Weezer, Cavalera Conspiracy, Motorhead, Opeth, Sum 41 (with good sound this time, perhaps?), Richard Cheese
2012: Wolfmother, Within Temptation, Black Stone Cherry, Evanescence, The Darkness, Flogging Molly, Gojira, Incubus, Andrew WK, Glassjaw, Seether, Alestorm, Cypress Hill

frakk, 2012 was amazing for me. And they had to cancel it. Stupid Anthrax curse :(

Would love Firewind to return, saw them years ago with All That Remains backing Dragonforce and they were incredible. Didn't see them in '11 as I was enjoying Megadeth too much so a return by them wouldn't go amiss!

These too. Terrorvision were one of the best parts of 2010 and I missed the others.
