It's Maiden England part 3!

Code: Select all

IRON MAIDEN will return to Europe in Summer 2014 starting in late May with a short run of major festivals and a few select arena shows to round off their Maiden England World Tour which ends with a headline performance at the UK Sonisphere Festival in July as part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations at Knebworth Park. By the end of the tour the band will have played 102 shows in 32 countries to well over two million fans since starting in the USA in June 2012.

For details on tickets and to read the full Sonisphere press release click here.

The 2014 Tour will include dates in countries not visited during the 2013 leg and will be a much shorter run than is usual for a Maiden tour. Manager Rod Smallwood explains,

“The Maiden England 2013 Tour was incredibly well received everywhere and there is much demand from fans to see more and for the band to visit some places in Europe we couldn’t make it to this year so we thought we should play a few more shows. However this will be a relatively short tour in Maiden terms, starting towards the end of May and finishing at Sonisphere, Knebworth in early July. During 2014 we have something new we need to start thinking about, and on which we will be wholly and firmly focused going into 2015 and beyond!

As all our fans know, Maiden England is Part 3 in the History Trilogy of the 1980s video/DVD releases so this is likely to be the last time we will tour with a set list based on the ‘80s, and therefore the last time fans will EVER hear some of these songs played live.  With this in mind, for the 2014 dates we plan to change the set list around a little, to make it more equally representative of the whole of the ‘80s period covered by those three DVDs – Early Days, Live After Death and of course Maiden England, along with one notable exception from the 90’s, the fans will know which song I’m talking about!

So for now, take care and look after yourselves and we’ll see you all next summer ”

More information on the upcoming dates will follow shortly so keep checking here for the latest information.

Maybe a setlist more similar to the original Maiden England tour? Killers, Infinite Dreams, Die With Your Boots On, Flight of Icarus possibly

That would be amazing. As long as they still do The Prisoner, i'll be a happy, happy man.

They won't do 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' and I would be surprised if they played 'The Prisoner' again as they are going to make some changes to the setlist for next summer.

But what do I know? I was utterly convinced it would be a 90s-themed tour and that Hellfest's "Be Quick or be Dead" statement was evidence of that.

I'm expecting them to add 2 or 3 out of: Wrathchild, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Infinite Dreams, Revalations, Die With Your Boots On, Children of the Damned

Yeah, it feels wrong to see Iron Maiden and not have them play this.

Up until June last year I'd seen them play 'Hallowed be thy Name' five times. Although it's my favourite song I didn't mind seeing it dropped in favour of rarer songs from the 80s. I'm sure it will return for Maiden England part 3.

However, I would like to see Iron Maiden drop 'Iron Maiden', 'The Number of the Beast' and 'Fear of the Dark' from the set at some point as I've seen all of those songs seven times now. I don't think that will ever happen though and seeing as Bruce's statement says that there will be a song from the nineties that "the fans will know" it look like we'll definitely be seeing 'Fear of the Dark' again. Apparently it was even on the Somewhere Back in Time tour. :?

I've heard and read a number of complains about the sound on this year's tour. Someone in a pub in Derby on the Saturday night said to my friends and I that the sound sucked where he was standing. I've also seen several people moaning about the sound at the O2 in August. I had no issues either time I saw them though.

I'll be honest my first impression that getting maiden to play the same show as Download this year appeared weak but if they are going to tweak the set list a fair bit then it's become a better booking for me. The nod to the 90's song is probably fear of the dark but could loosely be interpreted as a wry nod to 'bring your daughter to the slaughter' a song all maiden fans know for the wrong reasons

I hope they play 'die with your boots on' and 'only the good die young' unlikely but would be ace for me :D

Loving that poster though
