i saw them once but then i maybe misunderstood. i thought one of the members had died.

:?

i saw them in secc or murrayfield i think... supporting the red hot chili peppers. they were not that great. the lead singer spent more time playing with the microphone. (throwing it in between his legs and stuff). but he did it whilst singing so you couldn't hear him. it was quite annoying.

but they might have improved since then. i don't know.

:)

I think what you didn't understand is that they just go on incredible tangents, they're a very experimental band who like to make songs go on forever.

I do not care for The Mars Volta, but I suspect they may be good live, so I'll probably give them a watch.

Really looking forward to this, might be completely unlistenable live but might be amazing!

Seen them live and it's one hell of a different experience. Personally i thought they were great - think along the lines of each musician playing their own solo simultaneously, in a prog rock-free jazz kinda way!!

It's also somewhat difficult to tell when songs end and start; great fun :D

Just started to listen to them, L'Via L'Viaquez and Goliath are amazing songs, I hope their live craziness lives up to its reputation :D

Seems like these guys split opinion

And by that I mean everyone hated them except me

I do wonder if it's about what you were expecting going in? Cause I knew they were doing new songs (thanks to Iain above for that nugget!) and I imagine that helped - I probably would have been disappointed otherwise - but they really captured me anyway. I could have watched their new drummer all day!

Agreed, one of the performances of the weekend for me. Although there were a few walking out after 10 mins who couldn't work it out - I imagine those were the slipknot fans ;-)

They were such a mindfuck, it was awesome. I'd never saw them before and I'd heard mixed things about them live, but literally every member seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Even if the crowd stunk of weed the entire performance which, to be honest, is understandable I guess.

I must admit- I was a little disappointed- that is untill they played inertiatic ESP which was one of the best songs I heard all weekend!

Wish they would have played more older stuff but don't blame them for wanting to promote their newer material.

I thought the new stuff sounded great, although i have to admit they were a little self-indulgent on that track that lasted around 20 mins or so :-)

I left after one song, they were awful. Probably the worst act of the weekend apart from that cheese lounge singer who I didn't find funny in the slightest

Thought they sounded brilliant, I was a bit gutted though because i wasn't aware of them opening on 7 newwies, which is absolutely insane for a festival performance. Inertiatic ESP though - incredible.

EDIT: Also they were clearly in the complete wrong place on the bill, they had absolutely no crowd whatsoever.

Finally someone who agrees with me! I left after the Black Eyed Peas song, I thought the idea was to make metal songs into funny lounge songs, not abysmal songs into not-very-funny lounge songs.
