They've played their first show on the new album cycle, so the setlist is out there if anyone's interested
(and on that note I'll be vacating the thread as I don't wanna see it)

PS just been sent their new album, it is indeed very different

Is that good or bad?
And regarding the setlist.. It's pretty good, nothing truely out of the ordinary which would of been nice, but I'm expecting it to change once the album is officially released.

It's without a doubt their lightest and most experimental album. Almost all clean vocals (some of them clean clean, no growly inflection), some unusual arrangements. More emphasis on guitar solos rather than leads, and less obvious 'hello, this is a hook' choruses

The more stuff i hear off the new album the more I my opinoin that it won't convert many people but will keep the majourity of their current fanbase entertained but not go down as one of their best

looks like they're going to be part of the Metal Hammer DOTF tour later the year alongside Trivium .....

tour dates in europe (with triv) fit in rather comfortably just before the DOTF tour kicks off

I keep forgetting these guys are playing and then getting really excited when I remember. Also the new single is sounding fantastic even if the video is them riding in a ferris wheel.

Deliver us got me excited, then I listened to the rest of the album and I hate it.

The rest of the album just seems sloppy and boring, might just be me though.

I'm the opposite, I didn't think much of Deliver Us, but was pleasantly surprised by the album. I'd say the melodies on that album are the best they've written since Clayman. I thought they would go even further down the shitter without Jesper, but I'm glad to say they're still great and they still sound like In Flames, although they're even lighter now. Bring back the heaviness!

Sloppy as in it sounds like it's been mashed together.

...in what way mashed together? You mean riffs that were written seperately and put together in a contrived way? Awkwardly contrasting parts put on top of eachother? Poor flow due to tracklisting? Did you attack the CD with a potato masher?

Think in flames deserved a longer set than 40 mins and that 2 min silence has knocked off 5 minutes from their set. Would have preferred an extra in flames song and just do the silence at another time but oh well

Early. I think my cut-off is Reroute to Remain. I don't necessarily mind that album.

BQ: The Jester Race
BQ2: Suburban Me

I just think they grew up. As much as I like the earlier, surreal album. Ultimately they had to grow up as songwriters and the music shifted from sci fi to personal struggles.

The songs are still good. Not "Artifacts of Black Rain" good...But they are still one of the best metal bands out there. At least they didn't go the way of Pyogenesis.

Not related, but in 1972, a Reggae outfit (a studio band only, I think) called the In Flames sold a few thousand copies of their version of Elton John's ROCKET MAN (on Pama PM842)
