Sonisphere 2015 - European Edition

Postby PurpleDemon » Wed Dec 10, 2014 11:24 am

A place to discuss all non-UK Sonispheres. Starting with Switzerland.

Muse confirmed, the band also leaked Kasabian and Incubus as support.

Important to note is that the event allegedly has an 11PM curfew and 100 decibel sound limit. Seated tickets for 160 francs and standing are 105.

Not sure if this is a bigger site than last year's Swiss festival or not.

Is it just a one day thing?

Well. That's no good. I'm a bit worried that Sonisphere UK might announce as a one day thing and basically, I need a festival to be getting me away from my family from a minimum of Thursday to Monday.

I wouldn't really be worried about that. The Euro ones are often one day events, the UK is usually the only one that's more than one day, besides Spain (some years), France (on some years), and I think Finland (on some years). I doubt they'd bother running a 1 day event in Knebworth, and I don't know if they'd need a different license to run a shorter event, with no camping etc..

Alot of the Euro fests are one day events, have been right from the start. Think it's unlikely that Soni UK would scale down to that degree. I think it'll either be the full shebang, or nothing at all.

Italy was a two-dayer too, I think.

Kililive could easily put on a one-day event at Knebworth, but it wouldn't be a Sonisphere. Look at RHCP in 2013, for example.

Apparently there was massive trouble with that though, in terms of getting everyone out at a decent time, cause due to crowds (and weather?) I think a lot of people got stranded and traffic was backed up massively, as I remember they issued an apology after it. So 1 day events at Knebworth, well possible, seem an absolute pain to organise.

Isle of Wight suffered in 2012, doesn't mean they'll suffer every year.

It's a learning experience, the same way 2012 was a learning experience for Sonisphere itself. I can imagine it would be a lot smoother if they were to do it again.

It's something that's happened near enough every time a single event has been held there afaik. I'm not saying that means they'll never hold a one day event again, I'm sure they will, just saying it's not necessarily the easy option. I think if they wanted to the festival to continue longterm then they'd rather take the year off and focus on 2016 than run a scaled down event. Maybe they'll do a separate one day event if it doesn't run though.

They're going to do more than 1 branded soni in Europe surely? I know they are involved in Grun Helle etc but to just have one soni when it was touted as a touring festival seems a bit strange :?

Next one to announce is Italy; not sure when that will be though. They also said they're not sure on Spain next year.

Rock In Roma is July again next year, so I'd guess then assuming nothing has changed from last year.

EDIT: Muse are playing it July 18th, so maybe then?

Muse have already been announced for Rock in Roma though, surely if they're preparing an announcement for Sonisphere Italy/Rock in Roma, it will be bands which haven't been announced yet.

Well they could easily say "hey, this is a Sonisphere event and here are three more bands". Wouldn't rule anything out.

I think whoever is playing Sonisphere Italy will be headlining the UK event. It makes sense due to the time of the year.

Would be great if they gave us all free tickets to a European soni to make up for these let downs....then I remember this is reality and that wouldn't happen
