Thursday opening

Postby Karl » Wed Jun 29, 2011 11:04 pm

Hey guys, i know the official opening on the thursday is 3pm i was just wondering how accurate this has been in previous years (at reading they open up entry around 6 hours earlier than advertised most years). Booking train times now and trying to decide what times best to get into Stevenage.
Thanks.

This is anecdotal evidence only but the queues are apparently huge, I'm not going to be able to get there until about 6:30pm but I would advise to get there either very early (1pm?) or arrive later if you can't be arsed to queue up

They cannot open early, it'll be 3PM. Last couple of years its been 3PM or later, not a second earlier. Yes we can go in park up and get in the que early, but i believe the site is still open to the public that day.

Is the campsite open all the time from 3pm Thursday? I mean can we turn up at say 3am Friday morning and exchange tickets for wristbands and get in?

No, you can't do that. It says here that "If you arrive late in the evening you may be asked by a steward to camp up with your ticket and return in the morning to receive a wristband".

I suspect this will be because it would be an absolute nightmare to try and pitch your tent in the dark! I have no idea what the cutoff time is but I'll take a guess it's at management's discretion on how dark it is.

Well you can turn up at 3am and you can get in at that time, you just won't get a wristband till the morning, so they ask you to keep a hold of the ticket, and return to the gate in the morning to swap the ticket for a wristband.

I thought that it meant you'd be asked to camp outside the main gate for a night and then you'd get let in the following morning.

No, they wouldn't allow that, there's not even proper facilities. The stewards check your ticket - but don't rip it and let you into the campsite to set up camp. Then in the morning once the box office is open again you go to the main gate and get the wristband and they'll rip the ticket etc..
