The Angry Koala wrote:After all the talk of GnR, Metallica, etc, if Download end up with Linkin Park, Blink and SOAD that's hilarious.

Also, if Kili can't put together Sonisphere with 3 headliners that outdo that effort there's something seriously wrong! :)

that announcement makes SOAD, LP and blink look pretty stellar by comparison , i can only think the LP and RHCP will be at sonisphere along with maiden that as i said would be far better than download ,

got my ticket for DL so will enjoy the weekend and at east one of the headliners

There's only one headliner I'd watch! Not a great announcement for me

Aye - love Biffy but seen them twice so far this year - with a 3rd time coming up in the next few weeks.

Would love to see SOAD again but seen them twice over the last 5 years so not shelling £200+ on them.

No interest in Aerosmith, they've played before a few times anyway and I wasnt interested then

Undercard is OK - POR, Slayer ETID - but when you look at what EURO rock fests are offering the line up looks pish.

Really not a good lineup for me, Its a strange one because I wouldn't mind watching Slayer, Zombie, FFDP, System, PoR and MiW. But at the same time they don't really make me wanna spend £200+ on a festival.

I love system but I have always found they fall a bit flat live, seen them 3 times I think and there has never been any major interaction with the crowd, they just get up, play stuff and then leave. Its a bit like The Offspring where you know all the tracks and its a belting sing-a-long but you just expect them to be more exciting than they are.

Will wait for the second stage headliners I think

Only seen system last time they played download. aerosmith were only at download in 2014 and i still didn't watch them then, not really interested. Cant believe rip camping has sold out already! even though it will be arena only for me again next year.
Come on soni, i need to camp at a festival!!! lol. but what you think guys? surely team soni can pull something out of the bag??? who's out there that could headline next year??

Yay, you guys are still here!

So, looks like no fest for me again next year unless something magical happens and Soni resurrects. Maiden at Nottingham, but would much prefer to be back at Knebworth out in a field

I honestly wouldn't even like to guess if Soni could pull anything out of the bag for next year, one thing that the download announcement has highlighed is that people were always going to be dissapointed unless they got Metallica / Guns. At present then I think Soni could probably bag Maiden fairly easily as it will be at the end of a tour for them. And any other big hitters would likely go down better than the Download trio, but sounds like the sought after bands simply are not at fests this year. Would be interesting to see what A7X have down as plans since they have headlined before and with a new album out people expected them to show up somewhere.

So do we think the only realistic way it will ever go ahead is if they get Maiden and/or Metallica and if neither is available another blank year ?

I think RHCP are Sonisphere's most likely big hitter if they go ahead. Played R/L last year, not playing Download, played DEAG's festivals last year, Kili are promoting their tour, playing festivals in July, seems the most likely option.

I understand someone has Priest as an exclusive with a new album to promote and it isn't DL or BOA. Could be RM I guess, but could equally be Soni Friday headliner, which I personally think would be a good fit.

Good to see there is still some people keeping the faith!
I'd be surprised to see Maiden at Knebworth after a full UK tour but stranger things have happened.

So many surprises this past few weeks... download early bird tickets on sale with no warning, avenged album surprised release, metalica intimate London show despite them saying they weren't over till autumn. A nice soni surprise would be awesome right now

You're may be right, I hadn't seen that they had added all the UK dates in May. I was just going off the Maiden England tour when they played Download in 2013 and Soni in 2014. But looking at that they didn't play a lot of additional dates, just 2 at the O2 London.

I hope they can one day come back just because DL is a chore.

I have a mate in a band looking to get on the DL lineup. He seems pretty sure we'll be disappointed again this year. I'm booking Nova Rock tickets this week

So, Sonisphere Facebook page just posted about Metallica's new album. COULD IT BE A SIGN?

Please let it be a sign. Download is awful. SOAD I would watch just to see them, the other two headliners I actively dislike.

If Sonisphere doesn't happen next year, I'm off to Hellfest or somewhere in Europe. DL last year was an abomination of a festival. I mean, I had a great time, but that was despite the festival, not because of it.

I thought the same. Possible hint maybe. I'm not bowled over by the dl headliners. The same feeling about watching soad but not bothered about the others. 2017 will be the third year not camping at a summer festival if soni doesn't make an appearance. cmon soni - get back to knebworth!!

Rammstein announced for Graspop, rumoured to be headlining Rock am Ring/ I'm Park as well. Surely playing Sonisphere.
