Metallica, Maiden, RATM and Anthrax, obviously.

Why haven't they confirmed whether it's going ahead yet damn it?

Yeah, Anthrax blew us all away and the surprise set by Tool was appreciated, I just found their collaboration with Babymetal a bit boring.

My favourite part was when GnR reunited and hugged it all out on stage, and went on to perform the greatest set of all time. Though when Robert Downey Jr came on stage in an Iron Man suit during AC/DC was a highlight as well!

Also I never anticipated the "Surprise! I'm still alive" and then Freddie Mercury walks out on stage to perform the greatest Queen set ever. I was even more blown away when Kurt Cobain repeated it with Nirvana 2 hours later!

If Stone Free and other Euro events go well, do you think Killi will launch a new fest in place of Soni?

I don't see how launching a new fest would help them one bit. The non-event years damage the Soni brand name, but its not the reason the fest doesn't go ahead. It simply comes down to the fact that they usually can't get the acts to play.

I think unless they got a huge backer they are just always going to struggle against other fests who are prepared to throw money at the event regardless of it being a weaker year or not.

It shows that Killi can put on a festival successfully and shore up confidence in other ventures/festivals they may put on.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to clutch at straws I'm just wondering aloud

Who really goes to a festival thinking about the promotion company putting it on? All the majority of people care about is the 3 names at the top of the billing.

Well that may well be true about the headliners but I think festival organisers always assume that punters want the biggest and therefore most expensive bands in the top slots. I'd prefer interesting acts that don't play quite as often. Curve ball acts if you will. Unfortunately, it seems
UK organisers are not willing to take a risk on such acts and think big (or anyone who has headlined several times before) is best. It would certainly allow for a much more stacked undercard.

I meant bands/business people, the paying punter wouldn't care. But I imagine that a history of success in putting festivals on may help tempt bands (obviously behind monetary considerations)

The irony is that Soni was the one that did things differently - always a couple of curve balls in there (Bjorn Again, House of Pain, Bill Bailey..), with a stacked undercard. Going for Queen seems to be where they jumped the shark and started looking for Big Names, who then let them down at the last minute meaning the fest is dumped for another year and the brand is tainted and the fans are disappointed.

They need to get back to where they started with the first one.

Agreed. I really don't see the point in them starting up another festival when this one seems to be causing them so much trouble to run consistently. They set such a great festival standard for the first 3 years and 2014 shows it can still be done too.

Download will have more than likely already booked BMTH and will offer Metallica loads, so that Sonisphere doesn't book them. They will probably be in a huge negotiation battle with other fests for GnR.

Kili/ My Ticket will probably close down the Sonisphere website and forums later this year, but keep the facebook page and twitter for advertising purposes.

I can see DEAG dropping Rock Im Revier next year, but carry on with Rock in Vienna, Rockavaria and Rock the Ring. The Sonisphere presents tag will probably be dropped and Sonisphere Switzerland and Italy will be permanently rebranded as Rock in Roma and Allmend Rockt. I think they may try and launch a new brand in a different country such as Spain again.

I think they will try to push Stone Free even further, probably to an outdoor/camping venue with Iron Maiden as one of the headliners and it will essentially be a re-branded Sonisphere.
