Would be nice. They were either somewhat relevant or completely pointless

A couple of bands have posted 'Announcement Soon...' updates. One is Pearl Jam and the other is a small metal band called Krokodil. The significance of the latter is that they are a semi-supergroup who have said they will only play with friends and festivals as they don't want to tour.

Perhaps the second wave of festival announcements is imminent.

Then someone should tell team Soni as they haven't announced the first wave yet!

I seriously cannot understand why they've left fans hanging like this. Mental. Unless Soni has THE most unbelievable lineup in the world, they can't sell an event well enough to run it if they launch it in February. They know that from 2012.

i know ive said many times before but i agree. As much as it sparks a debate but it really is strange to have no word apart from a few random posts to FB and Twitter, which may or may not have anything to do with anything.
From Adams post a while back on talking to David, They went down to ACDC route again. Maybe its good news and for some reason they have to hold off announcing. Or they had nothing and then had an opportunity to approach GnR when they reformed and so that might be in the pipeline. I really am clutching at straws, without me sounding like Metalicbear (sorry RG), but the only grasp of hope i can think that they haven't confirmed its not going ahead yet is that they are still in talks with someone who they feel will be a good enough draw to sell well by announcing in Feb.
At this point, i'm just praying that they say something soon. I've lost out RIP DL as i wanted to wait for Soni, and am waiting to finalise plans for another trip in July too. But like you said Laura, its getting on a bit now and i would hate for them to finally announce its going ahead and then have to cancel due to poor ticket sales because everyone got fed up of waiting and went somewhere else.

How do we know they're not changing dates to later in the Summer. Pretty sure there were rumours a few years ago of Soni thinking about early September.

IF it were to go ahead this year moving it back (to the original end of July/start of August dates?) would make sense. With Stone Free taking place 18th/19th June they've only got a 2-3 week period between the two otherwise.

6-8 weeks between them would give much more breathing space and clearer run-up to each festival.

Also, IF it were to go ahead I am starting to think it could take a more RaR/BBK line-up approach. Not saying I want or would like that - just saying I could see it being done. I can already see "we've added Stone Free for anyone who just wants rock" being trotted out as the party line in response to anyone having a strop about the change.

Id be happy with a date change, especially if it were to go back to the original weekend. wouldnt bother me at all. september would be a bit late in the year but three years ago i remember someone saying they were talking about changing to may but its all chinese whispers. only problem is, without us knowing officially...it could be anytime, including the date it has been for a while.

Do you even need to announce that a festival thats ran once in the past 4 years isn't going a head yet again

You'd think so considering their announcement this time last year saying it wasn't going ahead in 2015 also said they were already coming back in 2016. If they'd said it was cancelled for good then no.

I think you still have to announce it is not going ahead, like some one on facebook mentioned. They still refer to themselves as Sonisphere Festival, they still post cryptic little messages with little or no explanation ever made. What ever there intention is, from the outside looking in it appears that they are working at putting together an event. So YES your do have to confirm if its not a goer because your fans need that communication.

Even last year they were replying to people on Twitter and that saying "we hope to go ahead" and other bits and pieces. There's none of that this year I don't think?

Let's not forget their "we don't have a festival that I'm aware of" reply to questions on one of their cryptic posts Laura :? But apart from that, don't think they have

Yeah - same here to an extent but that would have been some form of communication which people would have took as Soni never ever coming back

Yeah I know what you both mean. We are only a week and a bit off February now. The later we get the more I'm optimistic that we will here some form of news soon. Not saying it will be good news but some news all the same. What date was it in 2009 that they launched, can anyone remember? I know we heard about it in the Feb and bought tickets in the March/april.
