Aw :(

Real shame but I think everyone kind of gathered it wasn't happening when there was no line up announced by Christmas. Reaction to the cancellation seems to be relatively positive on Facebook at the moment which is really surprising.

I guess it comes as less of a shock when people have already made the assumption.

It's a shame because I adore this festival. There's just clearly no room for a second major hard rock festival in the UK calendar.

Been pretty obvious since the end of December that this was the case, or at least if it were running it wouldn't likely appeal to me.

Really not surprised, Metallica got announced for Reading, Sonisphere cancels, bit of a trend happening here. Makes the festival look like a complete joke, if they had a good lineup organised, why not go with it.

Well it only really confirms what we already thought, still a slight tinge of disappointment; especially after coming back after 3 years last year would of thought it was the start of something. Ah well, always next year I guess and plenty to keep me busy this year.

And now bizarre magazine has announced they are no more. Bad day! It has been gooseberry of late to be fair, but I've subscribed for years!

Gutted, but not shocked. Sounds like they really tried but ultimately defeated. Next year will be frakking AWESOME though. Maybe Soni will become biannual by default...

Personally, mixed feelings. They were looking for a later weekend which would have fitted my being put the country in July, so now I get to keep my 100% attendance, but I'll sob in my beer forever more if this is the end.

I frakkin love Soni. Had to be said.
Sonisphere is the most magical time of the year! There will be beer, excellent sounds, and happiness all round :music-deathmetal: Share the magic! 1k912130

Bring on Metallica and Maiden at the "2014 reunion"-themed festival next year, I guess.

Dok posted on the Camp Loner page that they were trying to get AC/DC, but they decided on a Wembley show instead.

It's a shame, AC/DC would have been amazing at Knebworth.

They obviously didn't have a good lineup organised or this thread wouldn't exist

Oh well never mind. They'll be plenty of gigs to attend in 2015 but no major festivals worth my money this year. I'm sure there will be some small ones though. If Soni went all out for AC/DC it was a huge risk, what with all their issues at the moment and their history of demanding a huge chunk of the revenue. IMO they are not worth it.

Your definition of trend must differ from every other occurrence I've seen. How does it make it look like a complete joke? The response has generally been positive. I for one am glad they won't just put out any old gooseberry. Guaranteed, it's probably mostly to do with $$$ at the end of the day but at the same time, they really don't want to give us a bad product like so many other major festivals are doing. I rather have a premium burger every week rather than one from a shitty burger van every day.

That's the point isn't it - in their eyes, they didn't have a good enough lineup to go ahead!!!!

Well after all the speculation of who is worth holding up the whole festival for, AC/DC and Tool seem pretty solid bets had they both agreed. Shame, would of been good to see AC/DC at Knebworth.

I'm not surprised. If Sonisphere returns as a festival which only runs every second year with a great line-up then I'll be satisfied. There's not room the the market for 2 major rock festivals in the UK to run every year.

How many comeback's can you do? wouldn't 2016 be the comeback to the comeback....that followed the rumored comeback of the failed follow up?

I'd hate to think this is it for Soni, it gave the UK market a shot in the arm and showed that there was an alternative way of doing things, plus gave lots of bands a platform they would not of necessarily have had.... some of the either kneejerk or bizarrely loyal to download reactions I've seen seem to think Soni were wrong for trying because DL is enough, if it wasn't for Soni I doubt the UK scene would of enjoyed the resurgence it has had. I just hope now DL doesn't squander the chance and just fall back on it's laurels.

AC/DC and Tool, if there were two bands that are the hardest to get to play a fest it's them two! Would have been amazing though, shame. Hope I'm at Sonisphere 2016

AC/DC are fap, but Tool would have gotten me there in a heart beat.

If they are to make a comeback next year I think it was a mistake to tell the world who they were after this year, as you just know the other festivals will book them for next year now. Can see Download having Tool and Sabbath next year, with AC/DC going to Glastonbury. It's been pretty obvious that a few festivals have teamed up again this year to try and kill Sonisphere off.
