ThornDavis wrote:I don't think it's panic so much as impatience. Soni 2014 was mighty. An absolute powerhouse of a weekend. I think people are just keen to know whether they can start looking forward to more of the same next year. Personally, I spend about 9-10 months of the year getting really really excited about festivals and want that to start in earnest as soon as possible. It's one way in which I feel like I get my money's worth.

Got to agree with that , 2014 was imo probably the best so far (2010 being a close second) but for me with the exception of the Prodigy (who I'd never seen, and thoroughly enjoyed) I wasnt bothered about the other headliners IM dont do anything for me (still not sure why) and Metallica are so far up there own a**es that they just annoy me, but the others on the main stages were excellent Mastodon/Gojira/DTP/Hundred reasons/Drop kicks/Reel Big Fish/Band of Skulls/Carcass/Slayer and that sort of line up along with the fact that I think its the best organised festival there is was enough to make me go. Not sure how many others feel the same but thats my thoughts. For me a good sub lineup and one decent headliner is enough . Unfortunately from what Rammsteins guitarist said in interview recently it looks unlikely that they'll play any shows in 2015 ...

I agree that I enjoy the undercard more, but there is some mental block I have where say if the headliners were Kiss, Pearl Jam and Avenged Sevenfold or something, then no matter how strong the undercard was, I'd struggle to muster the enthusiasm for the festival as I know that I would have no interest in the last two hours of any of the nights.

It's a shame about Rammstein. I remember at DL 13 after Iron Maiden we were saying that it was going to be a long time before we saw a gig that good and then low and behold it took less than 24 hours. They were just absolutely astonishingly good live and I'd love to see them again.

^ Pretty much this

By the end of the announcement cycles DL this year had acts who I would have been genuinely excited to see. But the block was Linkin Park & Aerosmith. I don't want my night to end at 10:30 or earlier regardless how good the undercard may have been.

I agree to an extent that a solid headliner provides a "comfort blanket", so to speak. That being said, at DL12 and 13, I watched the total of 1.75 sets from the possible 6 headliners (Metallica in full, a bit of Sabbath and a bit of Maiden) and really enjoyed both years. It wasn't that I didn't like the headliners (well, except Slipknot) it was just that there were things on at the same time I wanted to watch more (Hives, Slash, Limp Bizkit).

The undercard provides way more of the interest for me. I'll struggle through a day with a poor card to get to a headliner that I enjoy but I'll have far more fun with an undercard that I'm keen on ahead of a headliner that I'm "meh" about.

I'd take a strong undercard with a weaker headliner over a strong headliner with a weak undercard anyday. Headliners only take up 2 hours of the day whereas the undercard fills up the majority of the time; plus the crowds are smaller during the day ( I prefers me a less crushed crowd :P )

Just thinking about Sonisphere, I was a fan of pretty much most of the line-up besides the odd bands and all headliners were definitely on my watch list however the Friday was the f ucking greatest, sure the other days were amazing with so many memories to take home but The Prodigy just blew the whole weekend away which has got me just NEEDING a good chunk of bands that are a massive party, just like Bizkit into Prodigy. Of course there's bands and headliners that are there for the music appreciation (Metallica and Maiden were better than I ever imagined) but I don't know how excited I'll be if there isn't a headliner I can go absolutely f ucking crazy to at the end of the day, considering they are the blockbuster act of the day. Y'know.. :music-rockon:

I just hate this time of year. Everyone's announcing except Sonisphere, and every post from them seems like a tease.

I take that as confirmation that Sonic Boom Six are headlining.

No it will be Nikki Sixx headline all 3 nights. One with Motley Crue, one with Sixx AM and one with just him standing on stage for two hours telling us how useless we are.

So, Sonic Boom Six, Nikki Sixx, and the Six Fingered Man from The Princess Bride to headline?

If they want the festival to go off with a bang, they really need to get the Birmingham Six involved.

On a dartboard, the number 6 is on the right hand side or the "East".

East 17 confirmed for Sonisphere.

Or, the 6 is at the position the hour hand would be at if it was 3 O'clock. 3am. 3am Eternal.

KLF confirmed for Sonisphere.

I wouldn't say I'm that sure, but got a feeling it won't be taking place.

Last year, we already had rumours of Metallica and Maiden. This year, there's no rumours whatsoever and most festivals are starting to announce.

I have a feeling soni 2015 isn't happening. Granted the other festivals dont have a line up but at least they have dates which its happening and they know its defintly happening.
PErhaps Soni should be a every two year sort of affair? Give them time for MAiden to put out an album.... :P

Give it till mid november at least. This time last year we were in the dark and people were saying the same things. Band announcements would be early december anyway. But aye we all knew it was a possibility that 2015 was going to be a maybe. Theyvwont stick dates out till they are 100% happy theyve 3 headliners secured and ready tba immediately like last year
