Still, good announcement for me. Looking forward to seeing the proper line-up poster!

Probably be 2 more bands, which would make 10 bands in total again. One of the hidden bands looks like it could be Hounds.

Andrew WK just announced for Truck which is two weeks later...I'm hoping he is one of the 2 or 3.

Do you know what really fucking bothers me?

When we're all talking about a picture, but nobody's had the goddamn common courtesy to post it in this thread. Or even a link to it.

My girlfriend really likes Frank Turner. I can take him or leave him, but if he's there, I imagine that's us 100% confirmed (tbh, we were 95% already).

Surely he's bigger than Deftones though, of one of thems a sub and ones a saturn headliner, it should be Turner subbing?

Anyway, Reel Big Fish are a big plus for me, especially as I missed their last tour

I think at a festival like Sonipshere, Deftones would probably be the bigger draw, though arguably not as big currently as Frank, though Frank is in the middle of a faily big tour, he'll probably Saturn headline anyways I reckon which is 2nd last to play so not really smaller in some ways. He's ideal for that, die hard metal fans will probably be less fussed about saturn headliners if they want a good spot for them and those who aren't as much into Metallica/Maiden can still have someone big and massively different to watch to end their night on the outdoor stages.

Pretty sure Slayer are headlining Saturn on the Saturday and Sunday's Saturn headliner is still to come, apparently as a pretty big deal whoever it is, personally I think it's going to be Robert Plant.

I think Frank will be 3rd from top, probably on the Friday.

I suppose most of that might be true, but then in 2010 Placebo subbed to Rammstein while Motley Crue headlined Saturn.

I'd say that's a similar situation, Turner on Apollo, Deftones/whoever on Saturn, then Iron Maiden on Apollo. Assuming it's Deftones for the sake of simplicity, they're obviously a lot closer to Maiden than Turner is, but Crue are closer to Rammstein than Placebo are.

Plus, he's a massive Maiden fan. They were his specialist subject on Celebrity Mastermind http://www.nme.com/news/frank-turner/74701. I think I got more points than he did though 8-) I'm expecting him to play under them (and no doubt wear a Maiden shirt  ).

Pretty big coup tbh, I'd not be surprised if he ends up headlining festivals himself soon (I don't get the appeal, but it's clearly there). He might not be perfect for the main Soni fanbase, but he's gonna get the festival a lot of attention from the NME/radio 1 crowd. Really good idea to say to him "you like Maiden right? would you like to play under them?"

Yeah, the chance to hang around with his favourite band for a few hours backstage .. and then get paid a decent bit of money to do his own set, and probably watch theirs from the side. Who would really turn that down?

Though I imagine Reading have been chasing him too .. though probably too big to be bossed around by festivals like he was back in 2009.

If what people say about Maiden wanting younger bands to support them then surely they would pick Turner to sub them? (going from them apparently getting Pendulum to sub them last time).

I thought The Darkness' reunion were meant to sub Maiden last time, but pulled out so Pendulum took their place. :?:

Fairly sure The Darkness were reuniting for Sonisphere under Maiden.

Also Turner is frakking massive, but will play anything and anywhere. He is playing the O2 Arena tomorrow (Well, today technically) and only a week or two ago he played a gig in a pub in Camden just because he wanted to. He played a set at my local record store in front of about 50 people too ust because he could. You could probably ask him to open the festival in your shed and he would. Hoping he brings along his band Mongol Horde and has them in one of the tents.

Deftones, Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls, Reel Big Fish, Protest The Hero, Alestorm, Truckfighters, Kerbdog, Only Crime, Blitz Kids, itch, Max Raptor and Hounds.
God, that tiny writing was so hard to read.

The extra few bands haven't changed much for me - largely because I don't know them.

Random question: How many bands so far have women in them?

Alestorm and Reel Big Fish are good for me .. nothing else though

Guessing this where they start bulking out the smaller stages and the poster starts looking a bit fatter.

Deftones is an ace booking. Little bit more sold on Sonisphere now. Sounds like they're subbing Maiden?

Not really fussed about Frank Turner and I'll have to listen to Truckfighters, Only Crime and Kerbdog at some point. Max Raptor are always good though, and Alestorm being back is awesome too. Never seen Protest the Hero or Hounds so happy with those, and while I'll probably catch Itch and Reel Big Fish at Y Not it's good to see them here as well.

Quite the lovely lineup Sonisphere is putting together now...

Truckfighters, Alestorm and Reel Big Fish are good but the rest are just diabolical which makes the announcement extremely poor.

What a great announcement. I only know 4 of the bands, but they are good. Frank Turner is an amazing live act and really gets the crowd going...

This is going to be an awesome festival, and remember it's 40 years of Rock at knebworth.. not 40 years of metal, so calm down :)

Who are Itch? I've had a google but unsurprisingly there seems to be more than one band with that name. I'm guessing its not the Milwaukee covers band...?

One of the guys from The King Blues, I think.
