Stewards were fine. Information tent was great.

The little info tents dotted around were crap though and the guys in there didn't look very friendly especially those who thought it was a good idea to add 2 T's to their cap, to make tit

frakking prick.

not exactly towards you but the people in the info tent sat there getting pissed and didn't exactly know a lot. the ones down near our camp if you ask them a question and they didn't have a clue. they said the only reason they were there was to get the free entry

What time and where did this happen?
Thats completely out of line. Drinking was supposed to be prohibited completely while working.

Nobjockeys!!!

I didn't have my ticket checked once after entering the campsite for the entire weekend, unless I threw my wristbands in their faces just to prove I'd paid.

On Sunday night we built a campfire (hey we were drunk, I'd forgotten they weren't allowed!), which even Essex police were impressed with to the point that an officer or 2 came to sit with us to warm up a bit. Now my drunken memory of this is slightly hazy, but I remember completely shitting it when a Steward came up, swore at us a bit and told us our campfire was uncontained. Which was bollocks & we told him so. He then proceeded to dropkick it, sent flames EVERYWHERE, told us it wasn't contained anymore and had to leg it back to his tent for a fire extinguisher before it decimated the campsite.

Fantastic festival, AMAZING time, hand on heart these guys were the only bad thing about the weekend. Will be back next year but please use a different company for stewards!! :bow-yellow:

Security where the one's putting fires out.
And they where well within their rights as it was said before the weekend fires where against the rules, they put our small fire out with water.
You're excuse is that the police liked it and you where pissed? Fair enough he shouldn't of drop kicked it, but the majority of security putting them out where using big bottles of water.

Yes that's my excuse, I accept we weren't allowed the fire. I believe I accepted responsibility for that already...

My complaint is that he swore at us & drop kicked it about our tents. He used an non water based extinguisher that he had to leg it to the jeep to get. After HE spread the fire about!

If he'd just asked us nicely I wouldn't be complaining now and we would have put the fire out ourselves. I'm sorry if you did your job well with that company but I didn't meet you. If that bloke was the only interaction you'd had with a company, I'm sure you would leave with a pretty bad impression as well!

They weren't even the same company.
The guys putting fires out I believe where from Diamond, the security company.
I was working for festaff.
The guy was clearly a tool but on the whole the staff where rather good from my point of view.
You had plenty of interaction with the staff and you probably didn't even realise it.
Getting your ticket scanned, getting your wristband on, everytime you showed your wristband to someone etc.

I personally think apart from a few loose cannons the security were perfectly adequate!

is quite weird to see them on the forum though? guess they're keeping an eye out for the nutters before hand

no complaints at all, the stewards at the stages were bloody great, as soon as you asked for a drink they would get it for you, during the metallica set they were passing out drinks even when not asked to do so, and after machine head the woman directly in front of me ( i was in he front row) practically forced me to have a drink as she had seen my large amounts of headbanging. sure that might have been a bit pushy, but it's frakking great to know they were looking out for you, also during the machine head set when flynn told everyone to crowd surf the security were straight on top of it, nobody fell over the barrier on their own at all, and as soon as they realised somebody was hurt they were there to help them straight away, however this was notjust in said machine head set, it was the same throughout the whole festival. only small complaint was the information tents who clearly didn't have enough information, but were still helpful nevertheless.
anothe small complaint, at the second stage there was no free water available unlike the apollo, god knows why, so i'll just put it down to first year teething problems!

the guy who grabbed me and pulled me out during avenged was a right lad! normally security frog march you out with your arm almost at breaking point behind you, but this guy just walked behind us to make sure we walked out, so a serious hats off to him! though to be fair, had I tried anything, he was so much bigger than me that I would probably be dead by now

They should have had better briefing but they did what they could and were pretty helpful, I felt sorry for one during Limp Bizkit, she got smacked in the face with a bottle.

thanks to all the stewards who helped fuel our left-right bottle fight before machine head and metallica. supplying us with endless cups of water and fetching us bottles, and a speciual thanks to the steward who tried to throw his steward buddy into the right side crowd. It makes it THAT much better when stewards show their enthusiasm and join in the fun whilst still doing their job. LOL at the steward who gave us the finger after shouting show us your tatty bojangles!!!! aha thnks to you all, you were a great help when needed

Hummm I have mixed views - its seemed to me that anyone we asked anything didnt know the answer. There were people walking around with big information signs but didnt know the answer to anything. Merch people knew nothing about where to get FMC t-shirts. There were gazebos in the campsites with information written on them but when you went up to them they were usually full of about 2 official people and a lot of unofficial looking people drinking and lazing about.

In terms of security we saw a guy & his girlfriend and the guy was obviously getting hassle or giving hassle to the security guy so we stood back but whatever the guys said the security guy launched at him and started bashing him. When the guys girlfriend tried to haul him away a female security person dragged her away and basically put her in a head lock. The security guard then proceeded to hit the guy until he got him on the ground and pinned him and got a load of other security guards to come and help. Security definitely threw the first punch and were WAY over the top!

Personally, Out of the ones I spoke too, half were good and half were rude and clueless.

For example, the dudes on the disabled stage, with the excpetion of the scottish Supervisor woman, were great, happy, friendly people who were happy to help. Same for the Colored woman on the bohemia disabled stage.

However, the ones on the gate would not cut ANY slack at all. When the rules changed from 1Litre of water on Sat, to 500ml on sunday, I explained I was disabled and couldnt go and fill up the water every time I needed it, and also suffer from dehydration, and he said its not his problem, and told me to pick up a used 500ml bottle on the floor and fill it on site ! Which Obviously I didnt do.

The other thing, was at bohemia tent when it was packed, after ALOT of shouting to the guy on the entrance, asked if we could get to disabled stage, he said he didnt know, and to see the guy on the next door...so we did....and he said see the next guy...so we did...and he said see the next guy ! Who finnally let us in ! Defeats the object if you are going to make disabled customers walk the entire tent to get in!

Stewards were very friendly. Most were telling us to have great time after checking tickets or bands. Even when we got bags searched the approach was "innocent until proven guilty" which is not like normal gigs where I always seem to get mega frisked for some reason.
Cheers Pete

i know i already posted, but i forgot a few things, the stewards were frakking great at the stages, fuelling our left/right fights, and the guy during machine head that was walking up and down the right hand side working us into even more of a buzz, then there were the guys at saturn stage before paradise lost trying to start a mexican wave, it's great to be with stewards and secuity that are having fun with you, while also doing their job.

To be fair to the dude with the "tit" hat, he didn't know it said "tit" for some time. It was our supivisors who drew it on and then put the cap on him without him seeing it. Personally I thought it was pretty funny!

As for the info tents dotted about, we really didn't get told much. I was in the one up by the top campsites and the most frequent question we got asked was "where can we buy weed?"! The first night we had people coming and asking about a football match that we'd been told absolutely nothing about. I think staff need to be breifed thoroughly next year - Trying to get to my shift one of the security guys stopped me for like 5 minutes because he'd never seen the staff wristband and thought it was dodgy!

hey guys.
i was working in the main information tent on behalf of the better festival group (thanks to zee xx). all in all i felt it went pretty well.
when people say we weren't told much they were right. if it wasn't for following the forums like a hawk i wouldn't have been able to answer many questions. so thanks to everyone on here because you all helped a great deal. i do think that security should be alot tighter though 'cause the amount of people asking me where they get their wristband was amazing. how they got onsite let alone the arena was truly baffling.
anyway thanks to all that visited the info tent and entered our competition. i hope i helped.

Security/Stewards were fantastic in my opinion. The ones in front of Saturn were very chatty (and played football with us during Feeder!) and the guys up at the Apollo stage quite likely saved me from getting squashed during Metallica :D

The guys checking tickets/watching campsites seemed fine to me and generally quite approachable and chatty! :)

security varied.

i agree that if you ahdn't been watching the forums like a hawk then you might have missed something but some of them just didn't know much at all.

our main problem was on the thursday when early entry filled up (before they opened the bootom bit which we then went into). no-one seemed to know what was happening. just that there was no room left to camp in the main ee section.
(don't feel that is purely a steward problem, soni just wasn't expecting such a huge turnout i guess).

the only other time i asked for any help, all i got was a head shake and the nhe turned ot talk to the other guy beside him about something completely unrelated.

apart from that (and the bottles of coke incident) the stewards were really friendly.

:)

99% they were good - my mate lost his wallet and the people we spoke to were so helpful with us finding it :confusion-helpsos: ....although one of the buggers stole £30 out of it... thats the 1% of bad quality stewards!

and the guy doing the air-guitaring in one of those security tower things (or whatever they were) - he was a legend - so helpful pointing out were stuff was - think his eagle-eye view helped

i think that one of the problems is the fact that there seemed to be 4 sets of security / stewards milling about, i'm fairly sure i saw staff from MAN and Diamond to name just 2 companies, i'm all for subcontracting BUT there was no cohesion between them, i heard reports of the guys in the red poloshirts (MAN ?) driving over tents on the monday morning BEFORE the curfew time. Maybe an idea would be to "segregate" the security firms to specific areas ?
have FIRM A responsible for the campsite, FIRM B responsible for backstage / VIP, FIRM C responsible for the arena area and FIRM D responsible for the staff areas ?? you could extend the same system to almost anything that way

On the whole the guys doing the bag checks on the entry points into the arena seemed to do a thorough job, i did witness a briefing going on at one point and it seemed to be fairly thorough.
As for the guys who were in the info tents ... i think the only major problem was that you didn't know if the guys sat in the tents were actually the volunteers or not, lets face it, the tents were just open and easy to go in and sit down, if someone came up to you for info and you were chilling in an open tent ... what would you say to them ? would you act in a professional manner befitting the tent you were crashing in or would you just think "how the frakk do i know mate ?" I know that the volunteers originally had the "i" caps but i heard that quite a few got nicked by drunk festi-goers for some sort of souvenir
