When i crowd surfed in A7X, they just helped me down, grabbed my arm and lead me to the side of the stage. Nothing violent, they were just doing their job, and i don't think they minded tbh, they expect it and know that its just a bit of fun. They get payed to do this gooseberry.

thats extremely excessive in my opinion, we (SC-EMS) work with a security firm at an O2 Academy Venue and usually anyone that crowd surfs is HELPED down, asked if they need medical attention (at which point they are guided to us as we are Pit-Side) and if they don't they are escorted to the back of the venue in a polite and calm manner and informed that if they do it again they will be asked to leave the venue.

I think sometimes they must just get bored of being civil and get quite angry at the number of people doing it clearly just for fun.
Though they were nice to me despite me standing up on the crowd (two massive guys picked me up vertically so my feet were at head level) then jumped over to them, they were nice and even made a joke of it.

I don't wanna sound mean, but...could they do anything else? They're hardly gonna be lawyers/medics/pilots etc are they?
They're big. Being a bouncer or security might be all they can do?

That's the thing, some people end up with shite education cos of our government and simply don't get opportunities...
Then again, I know a lot of people for whom being a bouncer is a second job, and do something else/completely different during the day.
But for festival security, those guys just work security don't they?

probably not, i would imagine it is a bit like most firms of that nature - they have "bank-staff" they can call on for big events, you'll probably find that they ARE lawyers, Police, Shopping centre security, Builders, firemen etc that use it as a way of making a bit of extra cash (not that i speak from any experience  )

Oh fair enough, I obviously don't know much about this kinda thing (being...errr...slight of build )
I just figured for the most part, this would be what these guys do?
Cos surely firemen would be spending days off resting/having fun? I guess if they need money though, every penny helps!

your build has nothing to do with it, some of the best security i've seen has been done by the "little" guys, next time you go out have a look - you'll probably find that the bigger guys are there to look intimidating (don't get me wrong they CAN do their job very well as well) but the smaller guys who no-one thinks of as a threat will be the ones that are probably the "hardest" ones there.

As for the bank-staff comment, a lot of the security / private ambulance / events companies etc. employ a small number of full time staff but have a list of people that they can draft in for major events, it really does come down to "every penny counts"

Yes, but they'll still be buff as, despite being small! I doubt I'd be much help pulling a crowd surfer out of the crowd unless they weighed less than 10 stone, nor would I be able to stop 99% of people trying to get up on stage

Spose, it's like extras in films, they're not just failed actors ;)
