Bloodstock 2014

Postby Black Wizard » Thu Nov 28, 2013 1:01 pm

There was another announcement this morning. The line up currently looks like this:

Friday 8th
Down
Hatebreed
Prong
Flotsam and Jetsam
Primordial

Saturday 9th
Emperor
Carcass
Children of Bodom
Lacuna Coil
Crowbar
Decapitated
Evil Scarecrow

Sunday 10th
Megadeth
Amon Amarth
Saxon
Obituary

I'm very tempted by a day ticket for Sunday for Megadeth, Amon Amarth and Saxon. This year I went on the Saturday for Avantasia (90 minute subheadlining set!) with the added bonus of Sabaton, Gojira and 3 Inches of Blood, then I walked to Lichfield to get the last train back to Birmingham and missed Lamb of God. :D I have to wait to find out where I'll be living in August before I make my mind up about going.

Well I went to Bloodstock for all three days this year and I loved it, I like the size of the fest, the drinks not excessively priced and while there were some total animals there the majority of people were good natured . The only drawback was that you get buggerall sleep cos even the quiet campsite's only a couple of minutes from the arena (which is an advantage and a disadvantage :) ). With the current line up I'm definitely going next year .

Great lineup this year. All I need is something good in between Primordial and Down (preferably something folky or power) and I'm sold.

Metal isn't just about the heavy riffs, double-bass drums and aggressive vocals you know. Avantasia are a Metal band whether you like them or not. They've played Wacken before and will be there again next year, and the organizers of Wacken know their stuff.

Does anybody know why Children of Bodom are below Carcass on Saturday? I'd have thought they were much more well known than Carcass.

Carcass are a rarer booking on the festival circuit so I imagine they will get a little bump up. Also from what I heard the latest CoB dates didn't sell very well so maybe it's a reaction to that?

Got to second Blackwater on that Avantasia were excruciating it was like Meatloaf had been reincarnated as a wimpy heavy rock band . Nothing wrong with their musicianship or the standard of vocals but it was painfully boring imo and took away from some cracking bands over the weekend , not least the marvellous Hell . Having said that I'm already sold on Bloodstock for next year cracking line up already

I'm going to buy my ticket to this soon, so far like every band on the bill!

Biohazard have been appearing in some adverts for Bloodstock alongside other bands already announced, so it's safe to assume they'll be playing BOA.

Megadeth have apparently pulled out, hope they can get a new headliner in time at such short notice.

From what I've read Megadeth are still playing, it's just dates over the next week or two that are being cancelled due to Ellefson's brother passing.

Too bloody right I'm going, bought my tickets before I decided the Soni line up was worth seeing (mind you that was probably a foregone conclusion as I've been every year :-) ) . The line up (for me anyhow) is looking amazing better than 2013 and I thoroughly enjoyed that .

Bizarrely I worked out I actually watched more (in pure numbers) band sets at Bloodstock 2013 than I did at Soni 2011 (about the same as Soni 2009 and a couple less than Soni 2010 .)Mind you Soni 2011 I started the saturday with sunstroke and a humoungous hangover and the weather was gooseberry for the rest of the weekend so that might have something to do with it.

I think I have the problem of having too many bands to watch at Bloodstock  I could happily sit on the mainstage most of the days or go to the Sophie stage once in awhile. That sunday is looking epic though! Obituary, Saxon, Satan/Amon Amarth into Megadeth is an amazing way to end a festival :music-headbanger:
