Download Festival 2014

Postby PurpleDemon » Mon Nov 25, 2013 7:03 pm

This is gonna clog up the Soni thread more if this isn't made. So here we go.

Image

Thoughts? The new announcement is 50/50, but it's still the top bands letting them down.

Are you going? What other bands do you think Download will get? All the questiony questions.

Sonisphere UK 2013 is confirmed: [WELP.]
Headliner announcements made: [NOPE.]
Alter Bridge booked: [NADA.]
Arcane Roots booked: [NEVER.]

So far looking like the worst Download festival which is hardly surprising after two great years.

Offspring and Status Quo headlining second.

Trivium are headlining the fourth stage... (May not be headlining and could be during the day, but still!)

“We are thrilled to be returning to Download for our fifth time,” explains bassist Paolo Gregoletto. “In honour of both the festival and fans that embraced Trivium first, we have decided to play our 2005 set list from start to finish, preceded by a set of some our other festival favourite tunes. However, to make it all the more unique, we will be playing this ‘one time only’ set on the Red Bull Stage, the most intimate and intense setting possible for revisiting this special moment in time. We have had some of our best experiences as a band on the hallowed grounds of Donington, and this is shaping up to be one of our most exciting ones yet! Do not miss it!”

The fourth stage? They're falling further and further into obscurity.

3 bands I would watch out of 18, let's be honest it's gooseberry.

They chose to do it. They have just sold out Brixton with Killswitch.

Wish they hadn't nabbed Steel Panther and Rob Zombie. Still, it's a poor line up for me. Maybe 5 bands I'd watch and they'd probably manage to clash!

Its pretty dire. A total of 3 bands i want to see, 8 i would watch, and Aerosmith, Status Quo, Offspring and i guess Fall Out Boy are the only bands we havn't been saturated with over the last few years (although FOB did R&L and have an arena tour in march). Its a shame after 2 great line ups, but maybe it means Sonisphere have nabbed all the good-uns.

Aerosmith and Rob Zombie are the only ones making me want to go. I'd quite like to watch Linkin Park too, but as that's pretty much it I've decided to give Download a miss this year, first time since 2006. Terrible line-up so far this year. Hoping Sonisphere can deliver something better.

Aye, no much for me there. The Offspring, WSS and Letlive are pretty good bookings, and Trivium on the redbull stage is interesting too (but I'm not a fan so wouldn't really fuss me). Out of all that's playing I'd only really be fussed about missing Offspring as I haven't caught them yet/they don't regularly tour, and maybe Letlive.

Definitely looking unlikely I'll head next year, there's been much more the past few years for me and I didn't go though, so I'm clearly a hard sell

For me there's probably 4 bands I'd watch and I've seen them all before. Weakest download lineup I've seen for a good while, also status quo just seems like a really odd choice. Has copping just lost the plot??

To be fair I thought Andy C had beef with them and didn't want them booked before or am I imagining that?. Actually thought they might turn up to soni due to connections to knebworth...and the whole 40 years thing. Would have been a decent mainstage act for nostalgia and stuff, but not for me and not the strongest 2nd stage headliner imo, but its pleased some people I imagine!

The Offspring are good, would like it if they're headlining second against Avenged.

still not convinced to buy a ticket though. Will probably be giving it a miss at this rate.

The Offspring are headlining second against A7X. Which is a superb booking! :) If there was something better than Quo on Saturday (I imagine it's saturday they are doing), and something good for sunday, I'd perhaps be up for it!

I now have a headliner I'd watch every night so I might go, but FOB and Quo are the only really interesting bookings for me at the moment. If anything this announcement has made my mates and I more excited for Sonisphere, hopefully they'll deliver.

That would be a great booking for me then.

Steel Panther are always a laugh, but they've almost got to Bullet/Korn levels of "playing every two years" predictability now. I'd not be gutted if I missed them, as they'll be back in 2016 no doubt. Or I could see them on a tour, not like they're not here often.

3 must see bands
4 great bookings
3 good bookings
5 meh
2 avoid

It's alright, soni can trump it though.

Pretty weak line up there across the board and depending on when trivium play I would be more tempted with just a day ticket. The Main thing I am confused by is the Friday Main and Second Headliners, The bands are clearly not of the same era or genre but I can imagine a fair amount of people wanting to see both (like stein and bizkit had this year)

Offspring would trump for me as I would be back in high school era but would also be pissed at not seeing avenged since not watched them before.

Quo would be far preferable to Avenged or Linkin Park if they are clashing with them.

Bit strange putting Steel Panther against Aerosmith though, bit of an overlap I would have thought?

They're not second stage headliners. They're on main before Alter Bridge.

Oh  Makes more sense! For a comedic band whose joke is starting to wear quite thin that's quite a gamble. I know they have toured successfully but they have risen really quickly, wonder if their bubble will burst as quick.

To be fair, I thought that they might have overstayed their welcome last time they played (especially after the second album was poor), but they were one of the bands of the weekend.

They're just starting to fall into the "predictable download lineup" category, next to bands like FFDP and Lamb Of God.
