Powahhhh! - or rather how to get it camping?

Postby Vandrederic » Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:24 pm

Hey guys, first couple of posts and had a few questions for people that have done festivals before as this will likely be my first one.

Unless I can track down a campervan ticket on ebay somewhere my original plan of using my van for power, heat, keeping dry...etc: is out the window... so need a backup plan and just wondered what people normally do over the four day festival to keep things going?

I have heard of people pretty much karting in a big ass 12v battery and using that to have some lights, keep their phones charged and run some music...but I'm just wondering how viable that is on a massive field away from tarmac to get it there and back in the first place

Clothing wise should not be too big a deal, just figuring out what is do-able in a tent environment with a field between me and civilisation

Oh yes, the beers will be cool...

personally, i rough it.

phone charging - either buy a shitload of batteries from the vendors at the festival site or you can pay for a locker. locker contains a 12v car charger socket thing for charging stuff.

:D

apart from that, and a torch, i generally don't have much else.

:?

heat is not an issue if you are in a tent. take a sleeping bag. normally, in the summer months it is roasting. (from my limited experience of two fests and a shitload of camping).

:)

for keeping dry, take a double-skinned tent. personally, i wouldn't take a pop-up one but to each their own. double-skinned normally is better at keeping out the wet weather and reducing you getting wet by condensation too. if there is one person camping, buy a two - three man. two people then buy a three - four man. the size of your tent is normally just for the number of people and generally doesn't include all the shite as well.

i don't use a battery so have no advice about that. sorry.

hope this helps. any more questions then give us a shout.

enjoy the festival.

:D
roll on madness and the offspring @ soni 2013!! =D
please use alex's fmc code 1k915233 when booking your ticket. thankies :D

Hiya

It was my first festival last year so in answer to your queries:

The lockers have a power socket in them which need the chargers you use in a car. If you don't hire a locker just use the charger in your car.

No need to bring music as it's a festival

Lights = wind up, battery power or solar power (I have a head torch too for finding the tent!)

As for lugging a battery around I'd not bother. Far too heavy and really not worth it.

Also there's a tesco within walking distance of the site so if you need batteries, blankets, food, booze etc

All you need is a camping chair, a blanket, and a dozen crates of beer. Suncream or a hat are useful but not essential.

(and at a guess, you won't be allowed to take an acid battery on site)

OP doesn't quite understand the concept of camping. A field in the middle of nowhere is not your house.

 Last time I went camping I bodged together some items to give me power for my beer fridge, lighting and music...bare essentials... or atleast the fridge is when it's the middle of summer

Beer fridge is not bare essentials. You sit and drink warm beer like the 60,000 other people.

If you take a cooler for your food just stick some beer in there to. Otherwise its warm beer like we all have to.

In germany they all have generators. We had a fridge and computer with speaker system. Some people even brought enough speakers to proper pump up the volume and had marquees to have parties in. You pay one euro to help them with costs etc, but it's all cool.

You may laugh, but that was by far the best festival experience I've had.
