The Official World Cup Thread

Postby Foz » Wed Jun 11, 2014 11:33 pm

Thought i'd start a thread dedicated to the sports, for people who like the sports and the talk about the sports.

So England then? Quarters no further for me, bit warm like.

Its 50/50 for England to get outta their group.
I think Uruguay should win it, but depends which Italy turn up.
On paper italy would win the group ( or run Uruguay close) but in reality I think they will lose to Uruguay, draw engerlund and it will be a goal chase against cost rica.
For England to get through they need to avoid defeat against a better Uruguay side, or score more against Costa Rica.

I have spoken...

Oh, and score draw tonight, probs 2-2

Who do we reckon's gonna win the whole thing? I went on the wallchart predictor thing on The Guardian's website and my keyboard jammed in the final meaning I predicted Argentina were gonna beat Brazil 11-2 so I'm gonna stick to that. And I'm going with Fred for the Golden Boot 'cause I like the cut of his jib and his name.

Not thinking that England are gonna be doing anything better than normal (quarters hopefully) but looking forward to the thing as a whole and there being football on pretty much constantly - the dream basically

Great start to it, isn't it. Glad we've started complaining about refs before England's got involved. Won't sound quite as bitter then

You've got the pitch to complain about instead. It's an absolute disgrace.

That's Croatia out of the WC then, can see them beating Cameroon and at best drawing to Mexico, shame really they played really well but screwed over by the ref; probably not the only team to be a victim of that this tournament *coughEnglandcough*

I just checked with FIFA and they advised that they have in no way sanctioned this thread so the claims that it is the official thread are false and Sepp Blatter is looking into taking Foz to court.

It's a thread about the "official world cup" :eusa-whistle:

p.s. I'll bung him a fiver, i'm led to believe that's an acceptable way of dealing with Fifa these days.

Just the 15 goals in the first 4 matches then. Promises to be a dull tournament if that keeps up...

I don't get where everyone is getting Chile to have a chance of winning the WC, they couldn't defend for toffee last night! If Australia had some other players other than Cahill who can finish they could of won last night. Don't fancy Chile's chances versus Spain or the Netherlands.

Didnt realise Chile were even expected to get out of their group, far less win anything

Australia are two players away from being able trouble spain, I would expect Spain to swat them aside.

So if Chile can get into the faces of spain, stir them up, they might get a cheeky draw, meaning the dutch can afford to rest a few players against Chile as a lazy draw would suit them both.

If that comes to pass, Chile will have exceeded everyone's expectations by getting out of that group, and will probably get spanked in the next round.

Forza italia btw....

I've got Chile to get to the last 4, beating Brazil along the way. That said, my record at WC predictions is terrible.

It's odd though that people are downplaying Chile, but not commenting on the fact that Spain shipped 5 goals and only scored 1 against a Holland team which has Ron Vlaar in their defence! Ron Vlaar! He's terrible.

The Uruguay team shirts may well be the tightest item of clothing that any person on the planet has ever worn.

Well, they haven't in this thread! And it doesn't really matter what you have won previously, it's about what you do here. Spain were a shambles. Sure, they'll get chances against Chile but if they defend like they did yesterday they'll concede just as many.
