Which console to buy?

Postby shivcakes » Wed Apr 04, 2012 5:57 pm

Dudes and dudettes.

I'm planning on buying a console in summer. don't really want to start the whole PS3 vs. Xbox 360 debate (that's old news) but just looking for opinions on what's best to get? I'm used to Xbox 360 so I'll probs stick with one of them but what are experiences of PS3? have barely played on one. Haven't got fast enough internet for online gaming (max speed around 20mbps) in all honesty, and have 25GB limit per month so that isn't really an option anyway afaik..

Thanks for any help!

Ps3 has some lovely games, and most importantly, free online.

I still prefer 360 though.

In the end, it's probably gonna come down to what games you want.

Get an N64, 4 controllers, 3 friends, and a copy of Goldeneye. Then thank me.

Also get Ocarina Of Time. You won't have time to thank me, your life will be too fulfilled.

360 has Fable, Halo and Viva Pinata which are all good. Oh, and Saints Row and Skyrim are better on 360 than PS3 :P

PS3 has LittleBigPlanet, PAIN, God of War, Final Fantasy, Killzone, Motorstorm and Pixeljunk Shooter; they're all amazing :D

Also, the controller for 360 is better than PS3.

Only the greatest game in the history of games. The first Zelda game on the N64 :romance-inlove:

Nintendo should just bring the N64 back with online features.

But yeah, PS3.

Or get a Dreamcast and play Shenmue.

Xbox. I haven't used my PS3 since the day i bought my xbox. It's so bad in comparison. Can't even pick up a stable internet connection when it's sitting next to my router.

Oh my heavens yes! Imagine multi-player Goldeneye online! :o

I think I love you. I've given my Dreamcast to Lynne, along with Shenmue 1 & 2 but it's not in a drawer. May have to bust it out :P

Great comment Tom ;)

Goldeneye, Mario kart, micromachines, duke nukem...it would be other-worldly!

And I never had Shenmue 2

Looked on amazon (I think) to try and track it down but it was so expensive!

I used to spend ages buying those little toys

Shenmue 2 was ace, me and my sister completed it 3 times, filling up the save slots, then deleted them all and played again  proper loved the Shenmue games. It's an ongoing saga too, there's been rumours upon rumours about Shenmue 3 coming out, I hope it does, I'd lose my life in that game.

The first was an amazing game, never played the second though. It's weird how the things I remember are the little things like the shops, the capsule machines, dialing random numbers and fork lift racing :P

I think I may have to dig out my dreamcast now...and my N64!

I bet they'd look hideous on my tv though

The forklift job was awesome. I remember the hilariously terrible dialogue, talking to random people in the street, or the random kids that just say "hey mister, wanna play?" Those kids need to be more careful :P

Yeah and no one was ever in, he'd just go around saying "perhaps they're out" in his strangely American accent  it was odd how most of the people in the game sounded Japanese apart from a few characters who were really Americanised.

That was it

As I'm off work for two weeks I might just set it up and dedicate my time off to Shenmue :o

Consider this thread temporarily jacked 8-)

You must hunt down Shenmue 2 and play them both through, I'll be VERY disappointed if you don't :P

USE A CABLE

That won't be anything to do with the PS3 either, that's most likely ports that are configured incorrectly. Ideally you should put a console in a DMZ.

It's all the PS3. Everything is configured correctly. My xbox picks up a perfect connection from the other side of the house.

DOES XBOX USE A HUGE AMOUNT OF INTERNET DATA WHEN PLAYING ONLINE?
As I said, limit is 25GB.

Just get an Xbox. Cheaper and generally the online is better too.

If playing online is the clincher what do most of your friends have, and go with that. Both consoles have their ups and downs but multiplayer is only as good as the people you have to play with/against

Those rumours have existed since about 6 months after the last shenmue game came out, what, 10 years ago? :P

never actually played them, I think I should. I'm a bit of a hipster who's got to have played/listened to the best everything.

it's much easier with music, to find the "best albums ever" for a fiver or less (or download them for nowt) but games can still be expensive.
