I got that email and was all excited, then I saw it was London only and reverted back to being pissed off again.

Oh well Machine Head at the Manc Apollo should make up for it.

Boo. No Under 8s. That's a shame as my daughter would have loved to go to this.

Blackwater will probably be in the front row, throwing his underwear at them.

Good old Blackwater. I believe he's currently wreaking his own brand of havoc on the Download forums under the name XFM.

I think XFM only exists so Blackwater can admit somewhere that he actually goes to Download while still preaching its demise.

If Babymetal headline Download does Download become a good festival to Blackwater?

Anyone watched Scuzz recently? They're doing a whole "school of rock" theme thing at the moment .. I actually quite like it.

Anything that gets them away from playing the same Limp Bizkit and Foo Fighters songs OVER AND OVER AGAIN ..

In the garden with a cider (or 3) enjoying the sun. Where the hell did the summer go? Only seems like yesterday I was frantically driving round throwing up Soni posters and now it was all two months ago!!! Whoa, scary!

I have no idea what you're talking about. :hand:

Do English supermarkets still have to close at 4pm every Sunday by the way? That's one thing that confused the crap out of me when I moved to Birmingham two years ago.

Shops over a certain size are not allowed to trade for more than six hours on a Sunday. This is still the case.

Tesco opens on the stroke of midnight Monday morning and sells alcohol through the night .. so it's still better than Scotland.

Seeing shops selling booze at 2am was really confusing as well. But I can live without that. If you need to get alcohol from a shop at 2am then you have problems.

Any shop can trade for more than 6 hours a day but they have to pay a hefty fine per hour and pay staff a higher rate than normal, however shops smaller than a certain size are exempt from that. Usually most shops shut after 6 hours as they don't make enough money after the six hours to make it worth it.

Never really been that affected by the 10PM rule here for buying from shops, though in some situations its a bit of a pain. If you're at a house party and run out of booze you are stuck if it's after 10PM unless you go to a Pub or Club. Similarly if you are at the pub and going back to a friends house to continue having a drink rather than stay out all night you need to stock up or leave before 10PM...but the majority of the time it doesn't really bother me :P

the lack of date for soni 2015 is frustrating. Getting holiday time off in my job gets very competitive around the summer months, I've already ruthlessly ruined 2 people's birthday weekend by booking download off, would kill me if I couldn't go because someone else booked the same weekend off

I dreamt I was at Soni 2015 last night. It took place in a giant sports hall, and only about 500 people turned up.

In the gym the other day I overheard two people discussing which was the better band out of Nickelback and Nirvana. Yes, I agree that that should be a VERY SHORT conversation but the real gem was “The thing is Nickelback are sort of easier to listen to, so although I know Nirvana are better I tend to listen to Nickelback a lot more often.”

How can you say that out loud without someone crushing your skull in the shoulder press?

Some of my friends were having a similar discussion about Coldplay and how it was perfect middle aged music because it wasn't challenging and you didn't have to think about it, you just had it on and it made pleasant enough background noise.

I wonder if that is what Chris Martin aims for. "I want to be a band that can be on the background and nobody will be too offended or challenged".

My boss just asked me whether I had anything nice planned for my birthday weekend, and I mentioned that I was going to see Alestorm in Camden. She said "Oh I haven't heard of them what are they like". I tried to explain that they were pirate metal and that they were on tour with three other pirate metal bands, and she didn't really seem to be able to get her head around it., especially once I - mistakenly, in retrospect - expanded the explanation to cover Viking Metal and Catholic Werewolf Inquisition Metal. I don't think either of us benefitted much from the conversation and the more I spoke, the more I was concerned that I was seriously damaging my long term career prospects.
