Re: Sonisphere 2016

If Maiden and Jane's had clashed, I would have picked Jane's Addiction without much heartache, so I'll be happy to watch their whole set, from down the front, and then whatever happens with Maiden after that is a bonus. I love Maiden, but I've seen them a couple of times in the past few years, and J...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I cannot imagine how tedious that Hans Zimmer show will be. At least with 'real' classical music you get to hear some bona fide genius, rather than some button pushing pablum designed to tell you what to feel about the events occurring on a screen that isn't even there.

Re: the podcast, it's possible. However the abrupt "One for Friday." response made it seem like a hint and a "we're already planning on talking about that" sort of thing. It might be just a general chat about it but if no announcement is due then seems an odd time to talk about ...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I don't know if today's announcement means that Sonisphere is more likely or less likely. It feels like DL has drifted into industrial-grade complacency. I like most of the bands announced, but it still looks like the kind of line-up you'd invent if you were mocking Download.

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I find 'DL' to be 'fine' rather than 'awful'. I think of Sonisphere as 'very good'. For the most part, I probably wouldn't even notice the rubbish things about Download if I hadn't seen Sonisphere do it better. Also, whereas Soni does well on stuff like 'shorter walks', and 'good 3rd 4th and 5th sta...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

To me the only unique thing about their sound is german lyrics. Other than that (for me) it's fairly generic industrial metal and actually (again for me) many bands do that better - NIN, Godflesh, Fear Factory, etc. It's as if german lyrics, overdone pyro and an initial resistance to playing the UK...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I think Facebook has basically destroyed the forum communities across t'internet. Which is a shame because forums are about 1000x more pleasant than facebook, and much easier to build a community around, and share silly feuds, jokes and ideas.

Re: Sonisphere 2016

For me, it would come down to the fact that I find Maiden more fun than Sabbath. Black Sabbath live is quite doomy and atmospheric; Maiden is more celebratory. That would win me over.

edit: everytime I post I look at my new avatar and think "who's that prick?"

Re: Sonisphere 2016

Them burying the hatchet is surely them overcoming the single biggest obstacle to a reunion. If they're on good terms what else would be stopping it? Lack of interest? Promoters saying "Hmmm... GnR's iconic lineup is reuniting? I just don't know if there's a market for that..." If they're ...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I got the impression that Slipknot didn't exactly set the box office on fire with their day ticket sales this year. No other bands booked to play against them, and the crowd still didn't seem that huge from where I was cowering (Somersby mansion, hiding from the rain). It would definitely be overkil...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I sometimes get the impression that they can't be f**ked with going off piste with festival genres. I think they find it genuinely tiresome to play a show that isn't packed with rabid Maiden fans. Their whole career plan has been based around building and servicing a ferociously loyal fanbase so I d...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I reckon if it will go ahead, we will start seeing hints in October. If there's no word or sign or hint by then, I would say it's a non-runner. Yes - that sounds about right. There's definitely a sweet-spot. If they announce too early it becomes harder to maintain momentum. Too late, and it's diffi...

Re: Sonisphere 2016

I don't have a massive preference for one site over the other. I slightly prefer Sonisphere for the fact that the arena opens so early. I loved being able to wander in, grab a coffee, and hang out. I don't know why exactly, but that's much nicer to me than doing the same in the Download village. Als...

Re: Rumours Roundup: 2015

I'd like to see Bon Jovi at a festival. It's not the kind of thing I'd go and see at their own show, but you'd have to have a heart of stone not to get a bang out of singing along to Livin' on a Prayer and Bad Medicine. It would make up for the giant Queen sing-alongs that never happened.

I thought Walnut said he would rather be dead than pay to go to Download? Or something to that effect. Anyway! I like the idea of a Download meet-up. Someone else should probably organise it, because about half the people that tried to come to the Soni one oculdn't find it.
